ABOUT US

High School of Environment Management in Tuchola is a self-governmental, non-public high school. Its founding was a local initiative, and it was set up by “Tuchola Forest Promotion” Regional Development Society, which includes representatives of local governments from the Tuchola poviat.

The High School started its activities in 2003, which was the first time in history that the process of education at the University level was initiated in the Tuchola poviat.

High School of Environment Management in Tuchola provides modern vocational training in interesting and prospective professions. A team of outstanding teachers and researchers, competent administration and service staff, combined with high-quality didactic facilities are a guarantee that the School meets the requirements of employers from the current labour market. We are distinctive due to our innovative didactic process, which means, for instance, that some of the classes and lectures are conducted by representatives of companies which show high standards in terms of technology. The problems tackled in the course of classes and writing diploma thesis are practical ones. The School’s internal system of quality management gives results which were appreciated in the form of prestigious positive evaluation by Polish Accreditation Commission, issued in 2013.

We are involved in cooperation with renowned universities, such as Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, University of Science and Technology in Bydgoszcz, Cracow University of Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology, Koszalin University of Technology, and Gdańsk University of Physical Education and Sport. We organize academic conferences related to our study programs.

The School treats its students as partners who in cooperation with their tutors participate in the mission of achieving the desired learning outcomes. The students receive scholarships, and the School has an active Student Council, as well as scientific associations, whose members participate in research camps organized in cooperation with partner universities.

The School works for the purpose of sustainable development, and in accordance with its mission statement and development strategy constructs its identity and quality culture in close cooperation with the most important group of its external stakeholders- employers, including forestry management units.

The School hosts an Eco-innovation Center which was founded as part of a project co-financed by the National Research and Development Center. It was meant to commercialize transfer of technology and scientific knowledge by promoting cooperation with local government units and employers.

Our academic family are not only the School’s students and staff, but also a large group of students of First Age University, Third Age University, as well as the High School of Environment Management’s Third Age University in Kamień Krajeński.

High School of Environment Management in Tuchola was on several occasions the host of Europe-famous and one of the best in Poland “European Lumberjack Championship”.

High School of Environment Management in Tuchola organized the Poland-wide EKO Schools’ Tournament, which was meant to popularize ecology-related issues and encourage young people to broaden their knowledge and acquire new environmental and technical skills. It also holds: Regional Competition entitled “Commune’s ecological safety”, Conference in popular science entitled Natural environment as the key asset for sustainable development, and Edu-Business Area Competition.

In recognition of its significant role in the field of environment protection and sustainable development, the School was a laureate of Poland-wide plebiscite „Eko-inspiracja 2013”. During the Final Gala, which took place in the Quotations Hall of the Warsaw Stock Exchange in February 2014, the nominees were awarded statuettes.

STUDY PROGRAMS

1st degree studies in Health Ecotourism

Vocational studies in Health Ecotourism at High School of Environment Management in Tuchola are concluded with awarding graduates with the BA degree. They involve six semesters of didactic classes, including twelve weeks of work placement in selected institutions and companies. The primary goal of education within this program is to transmit knowledge, skills and social competences necessary for an organizer or animator of health ecotourism. The study program is situated within five scientific areas, namely medical sciences, health sciences, physical culture, social sciences and environmental sciences. Education takes place based on practical tasks. Graduates of Health Ecotourism are qualified (in terms of both legal, economic and tutelary issues) staff for modern forms of tourism and efficient organizational methods, as well as tourism management. Graduates will have knowledge and skills relevant for running a business in the form of an eco-tourism facility, as well as basic knowledge on the essence and function of tourism, and the conditions and factors which influence its functioning and development.1st degree studies in Environmental Engineering

Vocational studies in Environment Engineering at High School of Environment Management in Tuchola are concluded with awarding graduates with the “engineer” degree. They involve seven semesters of didactic classes and twelve weeks of work placement. The goal of this study program is to transmit knowledge, skills and social competences for the profession of Environmental Engineer. Graduates are prepared to work in the branches of industry and administration related to external environment (air, earth, water), or internal environment (construction). In particular, they acquire knowledge which allows for solving technical problems in the field of using and transforming environmental assets, as well as design, make and utilization of installations in buildings, as well as elements of rural and urban infrastructure (underground reinforcement installations, water intakes, sewage farms). The study program is situated within the field of technical sciences, and education is conducted based on practical tasks.1st degree studies in Forestry

Vocational studies in Forestry at High School of Environment Management in Tuchola are concluded with awarding graduates with the “engineer” degree. They involve eight semesters of didactic classes and four weeks of work placement in the organizational structures of State Forests and Forest Services Department and other companies related to forest management. The goal of the study program is to transmit knowledge, skills and social competences necessary for the profession of forester-engineer. The study program is situated within the field agricultural sciences, forest sciences and veterinary sciences in the domain of Forest Sciences. Education is conducted based on practical tasks.2nd degree studies in Forestry

MA studies in Forestry at High School of Environment Management in Tuchola are concluded with awarding graduates with the MA title. They involve four semesters of didactic classes and twelve weeks of work placement within the organizational structures of State Forests and Forest Services Department. The goal of the study program is to transmit knowledge, skills and social competences necessary for the profession of MA-forester. The study program is situated within the field agricultural sciences, forest sciences and veterinary sciences in the domain of Forest Sciences. Education is conducted based on practical tasks. The study program includes eight educational modules, six of which are obligatory: general education, research methodology in forestry, technical, socio-economic and MA seminar. Two others are facultative: breeding and management. The concept of education assumes entry requirements from candidates to possess the degree of forest engineer. It is acceptable to recruit candidates who have completed similar study programs and demonstrate particular range of educational outcomes acquired beyond formal education.

RECRUITMENT

For the academic year 2019/2020, the School is recruiting candidates for the 1st year of studies in the following study programs:

  1. Health ecotourism (7-semester BA studies) – full-time and extra-mural studies,
  2. Environmental engineering (7-semester engineering studies) – full-time and extra-mural studies,
  3. Forestry (8- semester engineering studies) – full-time and extra-mural studies,
  4. Forestry (4-semester 2nd degree studies II) – full-time and extra-mural studies.

Management of Environmental Protection in Forests

The annual journal “Management of Environmental Protection in Forests” is a magazine on nature and forest. It comprises originally written scientific, review and discussion articles as well as news. The profile of the journal covers a comprehensive range of subjects on environmental protection in forests, such as: forestry, biology, technology, economics and law. Thus, the journal presents the works from the field of biology, zoology, hunting, soil science, breeding, protection and management of forests, as well as law, economics and forest policies. Articles have abstracts in English. Titles, key words and article summaries are translated into English. Materials may be illustrated by colour as well black and white photographs. The journal is accessible in a paper and electronic format. The journal provides access to the scientific articles for free use for information purposes.
